DnD Ep 5

It has been a while since I blog about the drama on Arts Central. "Do Not Disturb", had to admit, went into a mid-life crisis at Ep 3 + 4. They had been guilty of:

1) Lousy actors (ehm.. Andrea de Cruz, anyone? She should just stick to be casted as an aunty on Ch 8.. or sue anyone who "cause her to fall really ill").

2) Poor script. I still cannot understand the office tryst in the budget hotel. Isn't it more fun doing it in the office itself? *hohoho*

Whatever, DnD was back on form last night with a stellar performance by Yeo Yann Yann. I guess this was very much the prelude to her performance as a Ge Tai singer in Royston Tan's film. In last night's episode, YY reprised the role of a PRC whore that meets the Ang Moh (aka Caucasian, Gwei Lo, White, whatever!) client. I suppose Asians are still pretty much a colonised lot - we often perceive Caucasians as superior to ourselves. The script was well crafted as the the actors grappled to understand each other in different languages. It also allowed the audience to unravel the chacters - The whore was looking for love, but the Ang Moh was more keen on sex (*duh* what else right?).

The story became more interesting when YY's character was tricking the Ang Moh into marrying her, and wasn't keen to.. ahem.. do her thing. She even went as far as discussing how to deceive the man over the phone, thinking that the he didn't understand a single word.

Her ploy backfired, and she turned a whiter shade of pale, when the Ang Moh blurted out road directions to a taxi driver in Ang Moh-nised Mandarin over his mobile phone.
It was back to business at the end, when the teary eyed gal turned to ask - "Do you still want sex or not?"

*English made easy*
