September is a good month for yours truly. There will be 3 birthday celebrations in my family , that of my Dad, Mom, and Mine! It's a bit special this year cos my parents are celebrating their big six zero, and my special someone will be joining in the birthday dinners. But then, that also mean that Justin needs to make more visits to his gym to kill the extra calories from the merry-making. Oh heck!
Anyway, September happens to be in the title of some of my favourite songs:
"September" by Earth Wind & Fire
***
Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the mind of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away
Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember - how the stars stole the night away, yeah yeah yeah.
Hey hey hey,
Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day
My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember - how we knew love was here to stay
Now December found the love that we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember - the true love we share today

"When September Comes" by Green Day
***
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to passed
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rest
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to passed
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends

It's amazing how this tune continues to rock the dancefloor after all this years (3 decades to be exact). This video may be a bit dramatic though - the band members look like they are executing “翔笼十八掌” (A Chinese martial arts technique, literally translated as “Flying Dragon 18 Punches"). A happy tune that never fails to get me humming at the gym.

Don't write off this band for its teen grunge music. In my personal opinion, this song was probably one of the best slow rock songs in recent years. It is interesting how this melancholic tune leaves the listener a bit choked with emotions.
