A recent advertising blitz by the ICPAS is really interesting, well almost to a point of being self-deprecating actually. As you can see, the pictorial shows a couple of ugly (think dark circles, eye bags, unkempt hair, dirty attire) executives surrounding an impeccably dressed gentleman, who is of course the CPA (looking all prim and proper). And with a slogan "Stay Ahead of the Pack", it suggest that the rest of the workforce is a "pack (of wolves)". Not very kind to other professionals, huh!
Personally I think otherwise. The pack of shabby looking people resembles a bunch of sleep-deprived auditors who have not showered for days. And that handsome chap seems like someone from from the commercial sector that enjoys a work-life balance.
I was once an auditor, and I resented the lifestyle at Big 4. It should be classified as a hazard to anybody's health and emotional well being, cos for about 2 years, I lacked proper rest, suffered from a dearth of social life, and was brainwashed to feel that I should work on weekends or till 10pm at night to fulfil my basic duties at work. In my personal opinion, nobody deserves to live that kind of life! So you can imagine the bewildered expression whenever a low-IQ HR consultants remarked "Oh, Why did you leave XXXX? You should continue staying at that company. Auditing is a good job!". *puke puke*
