F for F1

Singapore F1 Grand Prix made history last night for being the first night race in F1 history. The event successfully beamed images of the Singapore Flyer, City Hall, Padang and the beautiful urban Singapore skyline into the homes of millions of viewers. It not only made the Lion City look vibrant and exciting, it has also made Singaporeans bloody proud of the Little Red Dot.

The F1 fever has definitely gripped the city. Let me count thy ways:-

• The old foggies who have previously known F1 as the "help" key on the computer keyboard now know the basic F1 lingo - "Fur-lah-li", "Ah-Long-Soh", "Ma-Sak". 

• Ladies who would do anything to meet their favourite hunky F1 drivers in flesh eg gatecrash the shimmiest party, putting on a car-stopping psychedelic mini dress, signing up as a grid girl. Well Now they also try to learn about the teams they represent and the cars they drive. But given that they can hardly see their favouritest driver's face behind those chunky helmets, they may find it a bit difficult - "Oh, Lewis is so cute! Erm.. Where is his car? Oh, is that him who just overtook at the corner?!" 

• A large majority of Singaporeans get to experience the adrenaline of watching the race, either at the circuit or in the comfort of their homes. Heck the noise pollution and the destruction to our precious roads. The intensity of watching racing cars overtaking each other in the 61 laps was priceless. 

But one thing for sure. The Singapore GP was very high on entertainment factor. It was filled with so much excitement and drama that it make S-League look like s***. (Wait a minute! S-League IS s***! But then again, Tintin doesn't watch soccer too!). Anyway, the unexpected twists in fates led to the creation of interesting phrases by my witty gf:-

1) You should know by now that Alonso ,who started off at 15th spot, eventually overcame all odds to win the race. So to describe a situation where the stars align and everything justmade your day...

"As heng (lucky in a local dialect) as Renault"

2) A confident Massa started the race at the 1st spot, but ran out of luck at the pit stop when he sped off with the refuelling apparatus stuck to his car. So to describe a situation where even the worst unexpected thing can happen to you...

"As suay (unlucky in a local dialect) as Ferrari"
