A so-and-so died in the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Other than feeling sorry that she met such an unfortunate episode, does the country need to endure such an unheaval of emotions? That's because, for the second consecutive day, the newspapers and television couldn't stop gushing how she is the country's first victim of terror.
Just making an example - Would the Press and Ministry make a big fuss if she is the 3rd daughter of a taxi driver, and is a fat and ugly clerk in a local construction company, rather than the eldest daughter of grassroot member in the ex-PM's consituency, and not to say a least a young and pretty lawyer.
Would a word of consolence be given for the death of a social worker or missionary in Zimbawe? Or bring the case nearer to home - would there be more dignity for HIV patients who suffered from social stigma and inadequate health coverage. You probably know the answer. They barely achieve any political mileage for the policy-makers.
