Grand Shanghai

The wedding plans have started.

I was so relieved that my missus and I agreed that hotel ballroom wedding dinners are painful and boring affairs (*no offences if you had done your wedding that way*). So much so we are likely to ditch the embarassing wedding montages filled with u-g-l-y growing up years pictures, silly (dummy) cake-cutting ceremony (we will have a REAL cake at our Church reception), choking dry ice march-in's, constipated thank you speeches, and the ear-blistering Yam Seng's (a local version of toasting known as 饮盛 in Cantonese) on the stage. Let's just say we want the dinner to be memorable and enjoyable for our guests (and us!).

After some brainstorming, we planned to have a dinner with a 1930's Shanghai Chinois theme, and went on a recce in town. Given that I have a soft spot for sexy pretty lamps, these handsome lampshades at Copthorne Grand Waterfront's Grand Shanghai Restaurant just blew me away. 9/10

*Ching Chong Chinois*

We are pretty shocked by how wedding packages have been impacted by rising food prices. It goes up every year but it never comes down! Of course, the purpose of holding the dinner is to honour our parents, let's hope we can break-even with this guide to Chinese Wedding Ang Pow. Haha!
