The last movie Tintin caught was in mid-June - "I Love You, Man". I know, it was one of the most unlikely movie to watch when you have the choice of numerous Hollywood blockbusters, especially when this guy-meets-guy 'romantic' comedy almost defies sexual norms and boasts a largely unfamiliar cast
The movie poked fun at how men have been changed by girl-power culture. The lead Peter has no trouble relating to women, but to relate to men, he must first figure out how to be one as he goes on his desperate search for a pal to be his best man. The show revealed his overly sincere and sensitive side actually prevents him from indulging in
the gloriously insensitive modes of male bonding (the sex chatter, sports talk, chips and beer). He went on blind dates and barked on the wrong tree on a few incidents (think: metrosexual that gave him a goodnight kiss, in the lips. Horrors!). The nightmare ended when Peter met Sydney (this statement just sounds so wrong), and when he tried a bit too hard (and really lousy) in getting in touch with his masculine side. The comedic element went into complete overdrive as Peter the complete idiot jackass started sprouting unbelievable niggie slang and nicknames to appear "cool".
What I totally enjoyed was Peter's mesmerizingly pathetic attempt to fit into something that is so not him. The script was rude, guyish, and almost liberating for a good laugh after a lousy week at work. My guess is that it will soon be available at the video rental section.
The complicated love affairs in this movie reminds me of a song from one of the best TVB serials in recent years "冲上云霄".
