Although Tintin appreciates good food, I seldom brag about eating places, especially in my blog. But my sweetheart and I recently discovered a very interesting milkshake bar "Once Upon a Milkshake" or OUAM, when we are searching for a place to do our marriage counselling book on a lazy Saturday afternoon. We are so g-l-a-d to discover this gem, and Iwill like to do some shameless publicity for it.
We are a pair of wierdos who like the fact that there's plenty of privacy at OUAM. The cafe is nestled away from the main road and all the CBD madness, but it doesn't matter if you are there on a Saturday because Tanjong Pagar is as dead as a rat anyway. It's located at Maxwell Chambers, a new international arbitration center, but was more popularly known as Singapore's "White House", an easily recognised landmark at the junction of Maxwell and Cecil Street. What instantly captured our attention is the lovely decor. A Virgo cat like me was purring to the uber-white furniture and interesting signage fonts, while my observant lady was studying the contrasting purple wall and speculating the owner must be a girl. Which is true, no straight guy will splash his shop with in any shade of purple.
Then again, you don't go there to gush on the aesthetics unless you are an interior designer. The focus was still their Milko Shako. They claim they serve "premium ice cream at non-premium prices". Trust me, they are as honest as a monk, if there's is such a simile. Their home-made ice-cream is rich and FULL of flavour. A small scoop will send you to heaven a couple of times. It was so good, that we actually had to temporarily put the book aside to savour our drinks. They have catchy names e.g. "Agent Strawberry" for their strawberry milkshake. I had a "Grumbling Raisins", which is essentially rum and raisins ice cream milkshake, while my darling demolished a "Chocolate Truffle Castle", a chocolate and truffle combination. The owners even cooked up silly fairytale stories about their flavours as part of their "Once Upon A.." concept. Just check out their corporate website
There is hardly any guilt after enjoying these superb milkshakes, OUAM serves them in baby servings and uses 100% skinny cow juice. Sweet. So you will not throw up by having too much of the good thing, and also get to stay healthy. Oh well, if you are still cannot get over the extra calories, you can always sweat it out at the gym before making a visit to OUAM, like us.
