It is interesting that after all that bulls*** about eliminating discrimination, the world is still full of preconceived perceptions about certain countries, races or religions.
Just the mention of Chinese, and you will think of Kung Fu in Hollywood movies, cheap and potentially sub-standard "Made In China" industrial products, and native Chinese workers living in our country. The Muslims? I will think of local courier delivery men, and after the 9-11 incident, they are unfortunately linked to military extremism and terrorism financing. The French seems to have the better end of the stick. They are linked to exquisite wine and cuisine, Parisian romance, and a very hot First Lady Mrs Sarkozy-Bruni.
My future-missus and I finally made a reservation for our bridal package. And from my observation, about 7 9 out of 10 of these bridal studios have French, or should I say, French-inspired names even when there is nothing French about it. No, the "French lace" doesn't count, just like how "Brussel sprouts" is anything but Flemish. The owners probably think it will improve the company's image by selecting a name that can inspire romance and high fashion sense. But planting "De", "La", "Le" randomly with words like "Bella", "Amour" or "Couture" just doesn't make it special.
Alas, after 3 weeks of shopping for our bridal studio, we finally made up our mind. La Belle Couture, anyone?
