The Singapore policy-makers are a funny bunch of people. They took pains to design policies for the benefit of the country, but these proposed changes often proved to be unpopular with some fractions of the society. Of course, to appear gracious and sincere in creating an inclusive society, they will then invite the public's consultation, and debate over the proposed changes during the Parliament sessions.
In just a year, we saw controversial rules or policies being implemented without a referendum. From the Integrated Resorts (read: sugar-coated gambling, sleaze, underworld, money laundering), to Formula 1 (read: cordoned city roads for days), to amendments in our CPF laws (read: cut alot during bad times, restore a little when the good times are back).

Recently, changes were also made to the Penal Code. Some laws related to carnal sexual acts were abolished since they were deemed "archaic" in modern times. However, a sub-section remains in force, because according to the policy-makers, "Singapore is still largely conservative".
Honestly, I think it is a shame that our leaders refused to accept some Singaporeans as equal citizens due to their sexual orientation. Isn't it part of our national pledge as well, that we are "one united nation, regardless of race, language or religion"? And aren't the leaders separating morals from the law when they decide to legalise gambling under the disguise of the Integrated Resorts? There seems to be little basis for this section in Penal Code when they promised that "the authorities will not be actively clamping down such activities".
So, for equality and the love for fellow mankind, join me and many others to repeal Penal Code S377A.
Now.
