It's Lunar New Year season again and everybody seems to be possessed with shopping. New clothes, snacks & goodies, and all things new & R-E-D to decorate the house. Whilst doing so, shoppers treated to a molotov of gaudy Chinese New Year songs. Count yourself lucky if it is not played to MTVs where celebrities discard all their glamour to lip synch to the song lyrics. Not forgetting the nonsensical body movements I call the CNY pose i.e. holding oranges/ red packets/ fake firecrackers/ red pieces of paper in their hands and swaying to their sides throughout the song.
Just that in 2011, Tintin noted something evil brewing in the malls. They are playing CNY songs... IN ENGLISH. Good heavens. This can only happen in Singapore.
