I kid not. If the literature folks need to do a study on human behaviour and language, they ought to take a look at the Singapore Army. It's pretty amazing to see how a common language binds able-bodied Singaporean men of different races - Hokkien, in the crudest fashion.
Then again, it's not difficult to why the human brain degenerate rather naturally in army. We medics had to remember a whole bunch of acronyms while saving lives in the field: POCM, AVPU, GCS, DABC, CPR, PCC, IV, RR, PR, BP, BCS, ETT, etc.
