Definitely, Maybe

Yours truly went to watch the movie "Definitely Maybe" with his sweetheart this evening. It's my first visit in.. erm.. 2 months. Yep, quite a long period if you are living in a city filled with cineplexes.

The sincere heartfelt movie far exceeded my expectations, by miles in fact. It dealt with real issues like failed relationships, a broken marriage, parenting and the pursuit for love, with a script that was both witty and refreshing. It was not the usual Hollywood shit with violence and hiphop trash. And my guess is that the producers are probably English, cos they managed to assemble a very talented cast - Ryan Reynolds (as the dad Will Hayes) and child actor Abigail Breslin (as the daughter Maya). I honestly don't like child actors, but this actress is a gem - much more talented than all the actors in Harry Potter series combined.

A quick overview: A dad in the midst of a divorce (Will Hayes) was questioned by his daughter (Maya) about his life before marriage, most importantly how her parents met and fell in love. You know how kids need an answer to everything. In my opinion, it is probably important to address the insecurity of the child that is caught in a divorce. So, Will hopelessly attempts to narrate a "PG" version of his story for his daughter, of course, with very limited success when there are exchanges such as:

Daughter: Dad, I can't believe you drank... and smoked... and was such a slut... But I still love you. (Man, I will be very touched if I'm daddy)

Daughter: What's a threesome?
Dad: It's a game, that adults play sometimes... When they're bored.
Daughter: ...Whatever (Yep, She knows she is not getting the correct answer. haha)

So, as Maya puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending

My favourite moment? When Will tells his daughter. "Maya, you know what's the happy ending? You are the happy ending."

Splendid. It's really my kind of show. And what better way but to watch it with my sweetheart.
