Bonus: Peanuts vs Monkeys

I remembered at a tutorial during my Accountancy studies in NTU, a classmate gave an excellent one-liner that summed up our sentiments about earnings management (ie. fraud) -- "If the Company pays peanuts, the management will behave like monkeys!". In simple terms, the company must pay its employees well so they will run the business properly.

Well, it seems my bosses didn't really get the idea. I received my bonus and increment letter this week. Hmmm, let's say the Mega Malaysia Sale (we had a Malaysian parent) did not end in December. Its impact is felt in our bonus payout as well. My colleagues and I suffered from varying amount of discount from the amount my managers had proposed. I had a fate of a pre-CNY sale - 10%. My colleague suffered a worse fate equivalent to an anniversary sale - 20%.

What irks me more is the increment of merely 7%. In the banking & finance sector, this is really a joke! Maybe it's a SIGN!
